Getting A Lawyer to Help
- If the company you complained against has not fixed the problem, you may want to talk to a lawyer;
- Hiring a hire lawyer to take your case may not be worth it. Often, the money you are asking for is far less than it will cost to pay your lawyer;
- Also, legal actions can take years;
- Still a lawyer can help you understand the law, your rights and where to go next.
Contact a lawyer if . . . . .
You are being sued
- If you are being sued, you need legal advice;
- Your failure to appear in court or obtain legal advice could cost you money;
- Even if you know that you will lose your case; the advice of a lawyer may help you to pay less.
You are about to buy a house or sign a contract
- If you are told that your only option is to sue in court, consult a lawyer.
- A lawyer can tell you how much a lawsuit will cost and if the law is on your side.
- ln-some cases, a letter from a lawyer can resolve the problem.
- Such a letter costs less than the cost of hiring a lawyer to handle your case.
Example:
You signed a contract to buy a car. The person who sold you the car used an unfair sales practice. He lied to you about the car.
A letter from a lawyer such practices might get the dealership to cancel the contract.
If you have to choose
Sometimes you have to choose between hiring a lawyer or dropping the matter.
If you want to sue, but the amount you want is more than the small claims court limit ($5,000) you may have to hire a lawyer.
