What to do if your concerned
In Wyoming, there is a person who looks after the needs of seniors.
The person is called the "Long Term Care Ombudsman." This word is pronounced "Awm - buds - man."
- The Ombudsman works with seniors and concerned family members to investigate and resolve problems faced by seniors;
- The Ombusman also gives information to seniors and the agencies that serve them;
Who does the Ombudsman work with?
The Ombudsman works with people who live in long-term care homes.
These include people in nursing homes, skilled nursing facilities, and home care programs.
He also works with
- the family and friends of people in long term care;
- people who work in long term care homes;
- concerned groups who want to improve long-term care;
Why do we have an Ombudsman?
People in long-term care often have little contact with the outside world. Some may feel that they do not have control over their own lives.
- The Ombudsman is someone who makes contact with seniors to help them solve their problems;
- The Ombudsman works to improve the lives of people in long term care;
What does the Ombudsman do?
- The Ombudsman tries to solve complaints and problems;
- He answers questions about long term care;
- He helps seniors be more active in getting the care they need;
- He looks at what needs to change in long term care and tries to make the changes happen;
What kinds of problems does the Ombudsman look at?
He looks at:
- problems with billing or costs;
- complaints about the food and health care at long term care homes;
- complaints about what happens when people try to get into, move between or move out of long term care homes;
