Child labor laws - farm jobs
by: Wyoming Legal Services - Lander Office
Children who work on a farm are allowed to work more hours than they would at other jobs.
Here are the rules:
- Children ages 16 and 17 may work on any farm for any time. They may work as many hours as they want. They can do hazardous jobs on the farm.
- Children ages 14 and 15 may work any non-hazardous farm job. They may only work outside of school hours.
- Children ages 12 and 13 may work any non-hazardous farm job. If they work on a farm that is not owned by their parents, they need consent from their parents. They may only work outside of school hours.
- Children under 12 may only work on their parents' farm doing non-hazardous jobs.
In general, all children may work on their parents' farm for any amount of hours outside of school.
