FOR BENEFICIARIES OF SOCIAL SECURITY
A Fact Sheet from
PABSS, a Project of the
Minnesota
Disability Law Center
DO
YOU RECEIVE SSI OR SSDI BENEFITS?
WOULD
YOU LIKE TO RETURN TO WORK OR ENTER THE WORKFORCE FOR THE FIRST TIME?
hhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh
THE 1999 TICKET TO WORK/WORK INCENTIVES IMPROVEMENT ACT MAY PROVIDE THE HELP YOU NEED TO:
'LOCATE THE VOCATIONAL AND REHABILITATION SERVICE PROVIDERS IN YOUR COMMUNITY WHO CAN HELP YOU FIND AND KEEP A JOB
'KEEP YOUR HEALTH CARE COVERAGE WHILE YOU WORK
'EARN WAGES AND OTHER BENEFITS THAT CAN RAISE THE QUALITY OF YOUR LIFE AND REDUCE THE NEED TO BE DEPENDENT ON PUBLIC BENEFITS
The Protection and Advocacy Organization of Minnesota - the Minnesota Disability Law Center - has information about the work incentives provided under this new law and how it relates to Social Security benefits. A new program in our office called “Protection and Advocacy for Beneficiaries of Social Security” (PABSS) may be able to assist you in:
'Accessing the vocational rehabilitation
system and employment services available in Minnesota
'Understanding the
types of services and assistance that can help you secure, maintain, or regain
employment
'Resolving disputes or problems that occur when working with providers, employers, employment networks, and other agencies
Please contact the PABSS program at of the Minnesota Disability Law Center for more information. We may be able to help you resolve a problem that is preventing you from working, such as:
· Understanding the effect of work on Social Security benefits;
· Asking for and receiving a reasonable accommodation from an employer;
· Dealing with student loan problems, such as collection, wage garnishment, etc.;
· Accessing para-transit programs such as Metro Mobility to get to and from a job.
