Thurston County Volunteer Legal Services provides free legal advice, information, and direct representation to low-income people in Thurston and Mason Counties in a manner sensitive to individuals and their legal needs.  Through the coordinated efforts of trained volunteers, TCVLS strives to enable clients to resolve their legal problems.  TCVLS provides leadership in promoting access to justice in the local community.

Client services in the areas of family law, landlord-tenant law, and consumer law are provided primarily through legal advice clinics.  We currently operate three legal clinics:

Thurston County Volunteer Legal Clinic meets every other Tuesday night in downtown Olympia.

Do It Yourself Divorce Class meets one Tuesday evening per month in Olympia.

Mason County Volunteer Legal Clinic meets one Tuesday evening per month in the Shelton Community Center.

SafePlace/TCVLS Domestic Violence Clinic is held twice a month, one Tuesday and one Thursday evening at the SafePlace administrative offices in Olympia.

In a limited number of cases, we are able to make referrals for full representation to volunteer attorneys.  Our priorities for referrals are cases involving domestic violence, especially if childen are involved, and cases where clients have extra barriers to obtaining legal assistance, such as disability or language barriers.  We also are able to make limited referrals in areas of law which we don't address at the legal clinics, such as probate law and guardianships.

Clients should contact Northwest Justice Project's CLEAR line for screening and referral: 1-888-201-1014.  This is a toll-free number.  CLEAR is staffed by attorneys and is open from 9:30 am until 12:30 pm Monday through Friday, and from 3:30 to 6:30 pm Tuesdays.  Clients over the age of 60 can call CLEAR Sr. at 1-888-387-7111.
