BILINGUAL RECEPTIONIST/INTAKE SPECIALIST

MANAGING ATTORNEY - VOLUNTEER LAWYERS PROJECT
 

Legal Aid Services of Oregon (LASO) seeks a full-time managing attorney to provide leadership and management for the Volunteer Lawyers Project located in downtown Portland.           

 

BACKGROUND:  LASO  is an effective, high quality legal services program committed to achieving justice for the low-income communities of Oregon. LASO's fifteen offices include regional offices throughout the state, a statewide Migrant Program, a Native American Program, and the Community Development Law Center.  LASO's priorities are client-based and change as client needs change. The Volunteer Lawyers Project of the Multnomah County Office is composed of several clinics and programs staffed by volunteer lawyers that expand LASO's capacity to serve low-income clients with high priority cases.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES:  The attorney in this position is responsible for creating and maintaining excellent relationships with the private bar and operating the Volunteer Lawyers Project that serves over 2000 clients per year with volunteer lawyers.  The managing attorney supervises pro bono unit staff in the Multnomah County office, volunteers and law students.  In addition, the managing attorney for the Volunteer Lawyers Project will provide compliance and reporting assistance to the LASO Central Office and participate in regional coordination of pro bono efforts with adjacent legal services offices.  The managing attorney keeps current on the law applicable to priority pro bono practice areas and carries a small case load toward that end.

 

QUALIFICATIONS: Attorney with at least 5 years of experience sought. Demonstrated commitment to serving low-income communities and experience managing volunteer lawyers is strongly desired.   A high degree of initiative and willingness to work collaboratively is also sought.  Experience with contract management, database management a plus.  Strong interpersonal communication skills and ability to foster relationships with the private bar and related community partners required.   Management and supervisory experience required.  Admission to Oregon Bar or willingness to take next exam. 

 

SALARY/BENEFITS: Salary depends on experience.  Full benefits package including health insurance, 401(k) plan and law school loan repayment program.

STAFF ATTORNEY
 

Legal Aid Services of Oregon (LASO) is seeking a full-time attorney for its Oregon City office, to start immediately. This is a grant-funded position budgeted for one to two years. The duration of this position is contingent upon continued external funding.

BACKGROUND: LASO is an effective, high quality legal services program committed to achieving justice for the low-income communities of Oregon. LASO's fifteen offices include regional offices throughout the state, a statewide Migrant Program, a Native American Program, and the Community Development Law Center.

RESPONSIBILITIES: The attorney will be responsible for maintaining a caseload focusing on eviction and domestic violence cases, and working with other community partners to insure safety and stability to clients.

QUALIFICATIONS: 0 - 3 years experience, and membership in the Oregon Bar. Ideal candidates will have experience with Oregon landlord tenant law and/or domestic violence restraining orders, and will be eager to litigate cases and coordinate with social service providers.

SALARY/BENEFITS: Salary depends on experience. Additional compensation for bilingual ability. Full benefits package including health insurance, 401(k) plan and law school loan repayment program.
