Our Hillsboro office is open Monday through Friday, 9:00 - 11:30 a.m. and 1:30 - 5:00 p.m. Other hours may be available by appointment.

Our satellite office in McMinnville is open Monday, Tuesday and Thursday 9:00 a.m. to noon, 1:30 - 5:00 p.m. The office is closed in the morning the second and fourth Mondays of each month.

In Columbia County, we work with Columbia County Legal Aid. A staff attorney is usually in St. Helens on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9:00 a.m. to noon and 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m.

Help for Low-Income People: The Hillsboro Regional Office of Legal Aid Services of Oregon provides free legal services to low-income people in Clatsop, Columbia, Tillamook, Washington, and Yamhill counties. We focus on the areas listed below. This list doesn’t include all the types of cases we can do. Limited resources prevent us from taking all the cases we would like to. If we can’t take your case, we may be able to refer you to free self-help services, or other forms of assistance.

Domestic Violence Assistance: Assistance with restraining orders for domestic violence, elder abuse, and abuse of disabled persons; stalking orders; family law issues; public benefits issues; housing issues; employment issues; tax issues.

Family Law: Our family law services focus on survivors of domestic violence in divorce, custody, parenting time and modification cases.

Housing: We give advice to tenants on our Tenant Hotline at 503-648-7723, Mondays and Wednesdays from 9:00 a.m. to noon. We help with problems such as eviction, lock-outs, utility shut-offs, deposits, poor housing conditions, repairs, unlawful entry, return of personal property, and problems in manufactured home parks, including closure. For ongoing representation, we focus on fair housing, subsidized housing, and other systemic housing issues.

Public Benefits: We participate in the state-wide Public Benefits Hotline, available at 1-800-520-5292 on Monday and Wednesday from 9:00 a.m. to noon, and Tuesday and Thursday from 1:00 to 5:00 p.m. Help is available on many issues, including TANF, food stamps, Social Security, SSI, the JOBS program, the Oregon Health Plan, Temporary Assistance to Domestic Violence Survivors (TADVS), Medicaid, Medicare, Veteran’s benefits, and unemployment claims.

Child Support: We participate in the statewide Child Support Helpline, which is available on Mondays from 1:00 - 4:00 p.m. and on Thursdays from 9:00 - noon at 1-800-383-1222. We give advice to both recipients and payers of child support.

Tax: We represent people in disputes with the federal Internal Revenue Service, including denial of Earned Income Tax Credit, denial of head-of-household status, and other claims.

Seniors: We are funded to give advice and representation to residents of Washington, Clatsop, Tillamook and Yamhill Counties age 60 and over regardless of income. The services available in each county vary depending on the terms of our funding and the resources we have available.

Education: We may be able to help with problems involving access to appropriate education, including issues such as special education services and school discipline.

Consumer Law: We help with some consumer issues, especially if many people are being harmed.

Employment Law: We help with some employment issues, including some wage claims, retaliation and discrimination.

Farmworker Services: We have provide legal services to farmworkers in many issues concerning their employment, including wage claims, poor working conditions, tax, discrimination, unlawful firing, and pesticides.

This list is a sample of the services we provide. If you have any of these problems, or other legal problems, please feel free to contact us to determine if we can be of assistance. We can often refer you to other services if we cannot help you directly. We do not generally handle criminal, traffic, or fee-generating cases.

Free Computer: Our Hillsboro office has a computer that is free to people seeking help with their legal problems.

Written Information: We have handbooks, pamphlets and handouts on various subjects.
