| Ranie Thompson has been appointed as an Equal Justice Works Katrina Fellow at Southeast Louisiana Legal Services in New Orleans. Her fellowship is funded by the Equal Justice Works, JEHT Foundation and the global law firm of Latham & Watkins.
Thompson will advocate for public benefits and health care for survivors of Hurricane Katrina. In New Orleans, people are returning home and facing new health issues. At the same time, access to health care has been drastically reduced.
Previously, Thompson was a managing attorney at Acadiana Legal Services in Lake Charles, Louisiana, a staff attorney with the American Civil Liberties Union of Mississippi and a judicial law clerk for the Louisiana 4th Circuit Court of Appeal. She has a law degree from the University of Iowa and a B.A. from Jackson State.
Thompson's addition to Southeast Louisiana Legal Services fills a major gap in our disaster legal services. We thank the Equal Justice Works, the JEHT Foundation and Latham & Watkins for their vital support for Thompson's fellowship.
