Pro bono attorneys from 4 of America's largest law firms worked with New Orleans Legal Assistance this summer. They made outstanding contributions to our legal work for Katrina victims.
Kara Persson of San Diego office of Gordon & Rees took her 2 week vacation to work in our New Orleans office with our attorney, Laura Tuggle. Ms. Persson developed remedies for 284 HUD assisted tenant families who were unlawfully forced to move from their subsidized apartment complex after Hurricane Katrina.
Les Jacobowitz and Harold Hagen of the New York and San Francisco offices of Dechert LLP worked with our attorney, John Tye, to help 100 public housing families complete the purchase of their units and get funds to repair Katrina and other damage.
Brooke Spigler and Kevin Passerini of the Philadelphia office of Blank Rome worked for 1 week with our attorneys, David Williams and Mark Moreau, in our New Orleans office, to develop litigation and advice strategies for homeowners facing demolition or whose homes have been demolished. As reported in a recent Wall Street Journal article, the City of New Orleans has been demolishing homes without notice and factual justification.
Alex Santana of the San Francisco office of Pillsbury & Winthrop spent 3 weeks working with our attorney, Jay Welch, in our New Orleans office on post-Katrina construction fraud cases.
Thanks to these outstanding pro bono attorneys and their law firms for their legal work for our Katrina clients. |
