Program News > New Food Assistance in Stimulus Bill

Louisiana residents needing help to feed their families will benefit from the stimulus bill passed in February.  The number of food stamp recipients in Louisiana increased dramatically in 2008, and it is possible that many people eligible for food stamps haven't applied.  The new law will increase food stamp benefits, and provide millions in other food assistance and tax credits.  According to the Louisiana Department of Social Services, the agency is now handling 279,249 food stamp cases.
