Managing Attorney Position--Foster Care
Southeast Louisiana Legal Services seeks a full-time managing attorney for a new project which will represent children in child in need of care proceedings in juvenile court.
Job duties
This position will involve work in the juvenile courts of Jefferson, St. Bernard, St. Charles Parishes and Slidell. The managing attorney will handle a substantial case load and also supervise a staff of 2 attorneys and 1 secretary. Travel, evening and weekend work may be required due to the needs of the clientele. You must be able to start the position by January 1, 2010.
Job qualifications
Admission to Louisiana bar, minimum experience of 5 years as a licensed attorney, and experience with child in need of care proceedings.
Salary and benefits
Starting salary is up to $55,000 per year depending on experience. Employee health insurance, short-term and long-term disability benefits, life insurance provided.

Southeast Louisiana Legal Services is a nonprofit civil legal aid program that represents low-income persons in Southeast Louisiana in landlord-tenant, federally subsidized housing, consumer, family, foster care, income security, employment, health care, tax, probate and education cases. We help the poor with individual and law reform cases and believe in a multi-faceted approach to advocacy for our clients.
Currently, we have 44 attorneys working at 4 offices in Southeast Louisiana. About half of our attorneys have more than 10 years experience--mostly in poverty or public interest law. We also have many recent law school graduates who have joined us since Hurricane Katrina, who were outstanding leaders in law school and are active in our local legal communities.
