D.C. Department of Housing and Community Development

The Department works with first-time home buyers and helps with financing.

Home Purchase Assistance Program, Greater Washington Urban League

The Program assists residents in purchasing single-family homes, shares of a cooperative, or a condominium, by providing $10,000 to $30,000 financial assistance for first-time home buyers. Applicants will be referred to an intake office in their ward.

Housing Counseling Services, Inc.

Housing Counseling Services provides counseling to tenants who are facing eviction or are delinquent in rent payments and to home owners who are facing default or are delinquent in mortgage payments. It provides Emergency Rental Assistance funding to qualified applicants. It offers pre-purchasing counseling, budget and financial counseling, and home rehabilitation counseling. It assists consumers by citing appropriate laws and regulations and by providing referrals. A certified housing counselor is available to assist with related problems.

Marshall Heights Community Development Organization

MHCDO provides services designed to expand economic opportunities, increase self-sufficiency, and improve the quality of life for individuals and families. Services include: Foreclosure Mitigation Counseling, Mortgage Default/Foreclosure Counseling, Predatory Lending Counseling, Credit Counseling, Homebuyer Education Program, Pre and Post Purchase/Homeownership Counseling, Emergency Services, Mortgage, Rental, and Utilities Assistance, Supportive Housing, Workforce Development, Adult Education, GED Preparation, Career Youth Initiative, Computer Literacy, Family Support, and Clothing and Food Distribution.

Office on Latino Affairs, Office of the Mayor, DC Government

The mission of the Office on Latino Affairs is to improve the quality of life of the District's Latino population by providing community-based grants, advocacy, community relations and outreach services to residents so they can have access to a full range of health, education, housing, economic development and employment services.

Operation HOPE, HOPE Center

Services: One-on-one credit, budget, and homebuyer counseling; weekly homebuyer and money management classes; monthly credit seminars.

SOME Kuehner Place for Abused and Neglected Elderly

This is a program of the D.C. Office on Aging and SOME (So Others Might Eat). The shelter is for those elderly persons who have suffered some form of abuse or who are at risk in the community. There are multiple services offered, including meals.
