The Chief Tenant Advocate advocates for, educates, and provides outreach for tenants in the District of Columbia.

Upon request or recognition of a need. Over 170 languages are available through our translation service contract.

If hearing impaired, please contact the office in advance to schedule an appointment. OTA will hire an ASL translator.

Description of Services

We offer the following services for tenants only:

- Legal Advice and Representation

- Technical guidance regarding statutes, regulations, and case law

- Technical guidance regarding legal rights and case preparation

- Self-help materials for case preparation

- Assistance in drafting Tenant Petitions and other case materials

- Full/Direct legal representation in cases involving legal issues of District-wide significance

Emergency Instructions

What is an Emergency? A tenant displacement resulting from a natural disaster, such as fire or flood, or a tenant displacement resulting from a government action, such as DCRA closing a building for being unsafe.
