Who We Are

Neighborhood Legal Services Program (NLSP) provides free legal services for low-income District of Columbia residents at three neighborhood offices, including two east of the Anacostia River. We handle civil cases in the following areas: housing, family law, domestic violence, public benefit matters and barriers to employment. NLSP also offers advice on consumer law issues, and connects clients with pro bono attorneys to draft wills and advanced directives. NLSP provides several different levels of assistance: advice and counsel, brief services, and extended representation including in-court representation. The level of service provided depends on the kind of assistance needed and attorney availability. NLSP will not accept criminal law cases or civil law matters relating to abortion.
