Brief Advice Legal Services for D.C. Nonprofits & Small Businesses
The D.C. Bar Pro Bono Center's Nonprofit & Small Business Legal Assistance Programs provide free brief legal advice from attorney volunteers to D.C. nonprofits and small businesses. These are one-time, short, legal information consultations with attorneys who cannot provide on-going representation or additional assistance beyond the brief advice meeting.
COVID-19 NOTICE: All brief advice legal services are currently offered virtually. Zoom/phone appointments are set on a rolling basis, depending on the requesting organization's eligibility, and as the appropriate attorney volunteer is identified for each consultation.

Real estate attorney volunteers can review your organization's current commercial lease, and provide guidance on negotiating with your organization's landlord regarding rent owed or other real estate issues related to the COVID-19 pandemic. (Nonprofits & Small Businesses)
Request review of a current contract your organization is looking to terminate or re-negotiate given the circumstances surrounding the COVID-19 pandemic. (Nonprofits & Small Businesses)
Get answers to your employment law questions related to COVID-19, on topics including furloughs and paid leave requirements. (Only D.C.-incorporated Nonprofits & Small Businesses)
Discuss your organization's COVID-19 financial relief options under the CARES Act and other grant or loan programs. (Nonprofits & Small Businesses)
Commercial Property Damage Brief Legal Advice
Get answers to your legal questions about commercial property damage or other losses your organization experienced during the recent civil unrest, such as inventory, fixtures, electronics, and other property. (Nonprofits & Small Businesses)
Go over a good governance checklist with an attorney volunteer to make sure your nonprofit meets IRS and D.C. government requirements. (Only D.C.-incorporated Nonprofits that also have 501(c)(3) status from the IRS)
