Nonprofit Insurance Self-Assessment Tool

Download the Self-Assessment Tool

Description

This educational toolkit consists of a training webinar and self-assessment questionnaire to help nonprofit leaders: (i) learn how to read and understand insurance policies, generally; (ii) understand the common types of policies available to nonprofits and what they tend to cover; and (iii) self-assess their potential insurance needs and/or their existing coverage in light of their own programs, services, and business needs.

This toolkit is designed to educate and equip nonprofit leaders to effectively work with insurance professionals—including insurance brokers, insurance agents, and legal professionals—to seek and obtain insurance coverage for their organization. It is designed as a learning resource and is not meant to provide a final, standalone assessment of your organization’s insurance needs.

  • For organizations that do not yet have insurance policies: Use this toolkit to learn about which insurance policies may be relevant and useful to your organization. You can use the “Notes” section of this assessment questionnaire to record whether your organization could benefit from each type of insurance coverage. You will not have answers to input into the policy-specific fields of this questionnaire at this time; however, you may use the questionnaire to help assess and understand any proposed policies you receive from an insurance professional at a later date.

  • For organizations that already have insurance policies: Use the policy-specific questions in the questionnaire to self-assess the scope and key characteristics of your existing coverage. Use this toolkit to assess whether your existing coverage is appropriate for your programmatic and business needs and to learn about opportunities for additional or expanded coverage. Present the results of this self-assessment—including any unresolved questions or clarification needs—to an insurance professional for further assistance.
