As a budding small business owner or a serial entrepreneur, one of the most valuable pieces of property your business will own is its intellectual property. Protecting your name, brand identity or design may potentially have significant effects on your success. According to the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO), "A trademark is a brand name. A trademark or service mark includes any word, name, symbol, device, or any combination, used or intended to be used to identify and distinguish the goods/services of one seller or provider from those of others, and to indicate the source of the goods/services." Over 530,000 trademark operations were filed with the USPTO in 2016.
To make sure to protect your business, filing a trademark or other operation may be a necessary step for your business future. In the first of the webinar series, we will cover the values of protecting your intellectual property and discuss trademarks, patents, copyrights and trade secrets.
