Coronavirus Scams
Scammers are taking advantage of fears surrounding the Coronavirus. They’re setting up websites to sell bogus products, and using fake emails, texts, and social media posts as a ruse to take your money and get your personal information.
Fraudulent Products
The Food and Drug Administration (FDA), and the U.S. Federal Trade Commission (FTC), on March 9 issued a statement and joint warning letters to seven companies for "selling fraudulent COVID-19 products." FTC chairman Joe Simons noted "there is already a high level of anxiety over the potential spread of coronavirus." [...] "What we don't need in this situation are companies preying on consumers by promoting products with fraudulent prevention and treatment claims."
Social Security Office Closures
Starting Tuesday, March 17, 2020 all local Social Security offices nationwide will be closed to the public for in-person service during the Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.
