Coronavirus Scams
Scammers are taking advantage of fears surrounding the Coronavirus. They’re setting up websites to sell bogus products, and using fake emails, texts, and social media posts as a ruse to take your money and get your personal information.
Fraudulent Products
The Food and Drug Administration (FDA), and the U.S. Federal Trade Commission (FTC), on March 9 issued a statement and joint warning letters to seven companies for "selling fraudulent COVID-19 products." FTC chairman Joe Simons noted "there is already a high level of anxiety over the potential spread of coronavirus." [...] "What we don't need in this situation are companies preying on consumers by promoting products with fraudulent prevention and treatment claims."
